Chapter 4 – The development of a self
* * *
Apart from certain genetic pre-programming, we are born into the world as a blank page regarding our life on earth. Out of a non-form we come into being, and are eventually born into this world. Our consciousness is pure, we have no preconceived ideas about how to interpret life. But we are well prepared. It is said that we are equipped with around 100 billion neurons (brain cells), most of which are unconnected. This makes us extremely flexible to different cultures and living conditions. The only neurons which are connected are those essential to life – for breathing, heart function and so on. We have access to a universal intelligence – a sort of inner wisdom.
